Composer and electroacoustican
After studies at Paris and Bordeaux and a few summer courses (GRM, Ircam, Acanthes), Christophe HAVEL teaches composition at the Conservatory of Bordeaux and at ESMUC (Barcelona, Spain).
In his first instrumental works – Oxyton (1991), Omotesis (1991), RamDam (1992), his very expressive style reflects the stamp of the electro-acoustical experience as well in the design of the sounds – especially in the detail of the morphological writing – as the use of new technologies. His work then associates very often acoustic instruments to an electro acoustical set-up for live performances, as in S (1994) which wins the 1st price at the 6th concourse of electro-acoustical composition of Braunschweig in 1995.
In reaction to the very expressive character of these first works, he directs his work towards the composition of dynamical structures where the materials harmonic and rhythmic play an important part in the formal dynamic, what gives on his more recent works – IT ! (1998), ÆR [la danse] (1994), CINETIC (2000) – a new plasticity.
In his metamorphoses serial work initiated in 2000 he imagines a new way of writing, putting the musicians through to the computer in open structures using synthetic sounds. In this outlook he started a research project at Scrime (University Bordeaux I) on the percussion gesture recognition.
In 1991 he funded Proxima Centauri together with Marie-Bernadette Charrier, a chamber ensemble dedicated to the contemporary music.
